Your day at the 9/11 Memorial & Museum begins amidst the twin reflecting pools, a vast expanse of tranquility accentuated by North America's largest manmade waterfalls. Witness the white oak trees, each distinctive in its growth pattern, resonate with the individuality of the lost souls. Amidst them, stands the Survivor Tree, a Callery Pear tree. Its revival from the ashes of devastation and the juxtaposition of its gnarled stump with smooth new limbs symbolize the undying spirit of hope and endurance.
As you transition indoors, over 11,000 artifacts await, chronicling the fateful day and its aftermath. The Historical Exhibition paints the timeline, from the day before 9/11 to the aftermath, also shedding light on tales from the Pentagon and Flight 93. Continuing forward, faces and stories come alive in "In Memoriam," putting a human touch to the numbers and statistics of the tragedy. The enormity of the event is captured in the Foundation Hall, with the imposing last column and slurry wall.
