Built in the 14th century, the Popes’ Palace is a stunning complex of two buildings: the Old Palace of Benedict XII and the New Palace of Clement VI. As the world’s largest medieval fortress and the most expansive Gothic palace ever built, it boasts 15,000 m² of living space—equivalent to four Gothic cathedrals. Stroll through the restored private gardens of the popes, where the griffin fountain and flower-filled meadows have been faithfully recreated.
From May 1, 2026, discover original interpretive narratives and explore rooms never before open to the public. The tour, organised around three themes, is enhanced with interactive models, documentary films, explanatory panels, and updated signage, offering an immersive journey into the daily and grand history of the palace.
The "Clés du Palais" web app provides all content in six languages, accessible from any smartphone. We thank you for your understanding as this enhancement project continues through spring 2027.
