Home to one of Portugal’s “Big Three,” the SL Benfica Stadium opened in 2003 and was designed by architect Damon Lavelle. From the moment you enter, you can feel the deep-rooted passion for football as your guide highlights the stadium’s importance to the European football scene over the years.
With seating for 64,642 fans, this UEFA Category Four stadium clearly demonstrates its impressive scale. After all, this was where players like Ángel Di María and Orkun Kökçü made history.
Every detail—from the meticulously maintained pitch to the polycarbonate roof supported by 43-meter-high tie-beam arches—reflects thoughtful design. The Hall of Fame honors the players who have shaped the club’s legacy, and a walk through the Tunnel offers a unique connection to the historic cheers that have accompanied many memorable moments on the pitch.
Featuring a massive collection of trophies and memorabilia ever since the club’s inception in 1904, the Benfica Museum is a true journey through the club’s rich legacy.
The 4000 square meters of SL Benfica’s history are spread over three floors and 29 thematic areas. Some highlights include the Portuguese Cup, the NOS Three-Time Champion League Trophy from 2015/16, some of the 38 Primeira Liga titles, two European Cups, Luisão’s jersey, and his boots. You’ll also see trophies won by the Benfica cycling, hockey, rugby, and basketball clubs.
Fun Fact: Luisão has won a total of six National Championships and has played 599 matches.
