The Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon also known as the Knights Templar was one of the wealthiest Western Christian Military orders that were founded way back in 1118. Historians believe that the order was disbanded close to 700 years ago but many still believe that some form of it is still in existence today.
For the first stop, i.e., Almourol Castle, you may get to travel on a boat if the weather permits. Standing at 60 feet above sea level, the castle is a beautiful representation of 12th-century military architecture situated by the Tagus River. On the way to the next stop, you will also pass by the quaint village of Constância until you reach Tomar.
Handed over to the Templars as a fief, Tomar remains a vital site to Templars’ history as it houses the Church of Santa Maria do Olival which was used as a headquarters as well as The Convent of Christ. As you walk through the Convent, your experienced guide will tell you riveting stories to help you relive the past through this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
