One of the main centers of the ancient Greek civilization, Mycenae is an archaeological and historical gem that has so much to offer! Stroll through the ancient site as you listen to some of these mysterious myths, like the story about the legendary Cyclops building the walls of the city. Explore the richest center of the Late Bronze Age in Greece, including iconic monuments like the entryway known as the Lion’s Gate and the Treasury of Atreus, a magnificent 14th-century structure. Don’t miss the royal tombs, especially Agamemnon’s tomb, the Greek leader who led the Trojan War and is considered to be the ruler of Mycenae.
Once you’re done exploring the site, head towards the archaeological museum of Mycenae. The museum contains about 2,500 exhibits from the region, including gold jewelry, ceramic vases, tools, weapons, and more. Wander through the hallways and gain valuable insights into the daily lives of the Mycenaeans, like their beliefs about the afterlife and death. Also, check out the copy of the golden grave mask of Agamemnon.
