Step into Theatre Picasso at Tate Modern and uncover a lesser-known side of Picasso—his fascination with theatre, movement, and transformation. Marking the 100th anniversary of The Three Dancers, this immersive exhibition is staged by contemporary artist Wu Tsang and curator Enrique Fuenteblanca. Over 45 works—including paintings, sculptures, textiles, and rarely seen pieces from European collections—are presented in a theatrical setting supported by the Huo Family Foundation.
Arrive at Tate Modern and show your ticket at the main entrance. Theatre Picasso is located in the George Economou Gallery—follow signs for special exhibitions. Bag checks may be in place, and you may be asked to present ID for ticket verification.
Theatre Picasso Exhibition
Designed like a stage set, this exhibition reveals how Picasso turned to theatrical figures—dancers, clowns, bullfighters—to construct a public persona that blended myth, performance, and artistic invention. It offers fresh insight into how he blurred the line between life and art through the idea of ‘performativity’—how identity can be shaped through action.
