How to redeem your tickets

  • Please go to green ticket-vending machines and pick up physical ticket by scanning QR code of e-ticket and non-Japanese passport.

  • If the machine breaks down or the passport have no IC chip, please proceed to JR-WEST Ticket Office to exchange physical ticket.

  • Head to the JR Pass Ticket Office (Midori no Madoguchi) and lookout for a digital redemption machine

  • You can also redeem your voucher at the ticket redemption machines at major JR West station and board the JR trains directly from there

  • Exchanging reserved seat tickets: Before getting on the train, please go to the green ticket-vending machines and pick. up physical reserved seat tickets by the area pass.

Carry your passport while using a rail pass and present it to JR staff if needed

This pass is for you if you are a non-Japanese passport holder with a temporary visiting visa and permanently reside outside Japan for over 6 months. Please ensure that you receive a stamp or seal from airport staff indicating that you are a 'temporary visitor'. Ensure that you approach personnel if entering via an automated gate to receive the stamp/certificate. An Adult or Child pass holder can support up to 2 infants, aged 5 and under for free. Additional charges will apply for more infants. A rail pass will not be reissued even if lost or stolen. Unused tickets can be fully refunded during the validity. Specify a fixed date while redeeming the voucher for physical tickets. The starting date on the rail pass and the duration cannot be changed after purchase. Some JR trains offer reserved seating although you might have to purchase a separate express ticket to reserve the seats. No express ticket is required for reservations on Rapid Services and local trains on JR-West Conventional Lines.
