Discover the world’s only active Ice Age excavation site located in an urban setting.

Inside the Museum, explore an impressive collection of fossils, animals, and plants found at La Brea, including mammoths, saber-toothed cats, and dire wolves. Outside, visit the La Brea Tar Pits, where tar still bubbles, and observe active fossil digs to see what new discoveries have been made.

Get a behind-the-scenes view as scientists work on freshly unearthed fossils, walk around the iconic Lake Pit, and stop by our live dig site where new Ice Age specimens are found daily.
