Landmannalaugar is accessible only during summer due to snow-covered roads, making it one of Iceland’s exclusive destinations. Its stunning landscapes are often likened to scenes from a fantasy movie.
Your adventure begins at dawn in Reykjavik and leads you to some of the country's most stunning and hidden waterfalls. First up is Hjálparfoss, an beautiful twin waterfall surrounded by ancient lava fields. Take time to explore this natural wonder before heading toward Háifoss, one of Iceland’s tallest falls with a Stranger Things-like appearance.
Next on your itinerary is Sigöldufoss, another stunning Highland waterfall located in a remote and surreal landscape.
Your 4x4 will navigate rugged roads to reach Landmannalaugar, known for its rainbow-colored rhyolite mountains and geothermal springs. Here’s what awaits:
- Start a scenic 5 km hike (moderate level) through otherworldly terrain—hiking boots are essential.
- Soothe your muscles in a natural hot spring, surrounded by majestic peaks.
The journey continues with a visit to Hnausapollur crater, an impressive volcanic lake larger and more mysterious than Kerið. Marvel at Sigöldugljúfur canyon, known as the “Valley of Tears,” where waterfalls cascade into a gorge sculpted by time.
