Nagasaki, the Flower of Early Modern Times: Tracing History from Nagasaki

This unique museum was built on the site of the Nagasaki Magistrate's Office Tateyama Office during the Edo period, and has been restored to function as a modern museum. The museum has gathered together many valuable materials, including ancient documents and historical materials related to the history and culture of early modern Nagasaki, and is themed around the history of overseas exchanges. Based on the wealth of materials, including magistrate's office-related materials and other nationally designated important cultural properties, you can learn about the flow of history unique to Nagasaki up close.

In the permanent exhibition room, you can enjoy a powerful video section where historical dramas of Nagasaki are shown on a large screen, an experience section, and special exhibits that change themes with the seasons. In the restored Nagasaki Magistrate's Office zone, along with exhibits such as the "Criminal Records" and the "Fumie" (Fumie), an Important Cultural Property, a skit reenacting the trial at Goshirosu (Oshirosu) is shown (only on Sundays), clearly conveying the historical role of the Magistrate's Office.
